Porn is the catalyst for a surprising amount of industries. It’s not that they wouldn’t necessarily exist without it, but that “porn bump” can certainly help. Whether it’s VCRs and tapes back in the day, or video streaming and VR more recently, pornography can be a real stroke of genius when it comes to pushing new tech.
BattleBorn is a 2016 game by Gearbox Software, published by 2K. It didn’t quite have the same impact as Borderlands, and didn’t find nearly the same audience. Originally, people were expecting a FPS MOBA game, but instead it went for more of an Overwatch style (or at least that’s what it looked like to a lot of players), and didn’t really manage to pull off either. Not to mention being released during the Overwatch open beta. There was a lot of potential here, but for whatever reason, it just didn’t really ‘click’ with gamers…
Well, as it turns out, there’s a “Rule 34” subreddit for BattleBorn. If this is your first day on the internet, Rule 34 is as follows: “If it exists, there is porn of it,” and BattleBorn is no exception.
In a couple of screenshots captured by a user in the KotakuInAction subreddit, we can see that the amount of people checking out BattleBorn porn was greater than the current playercount.
In fairness, this compares the current active BattleBorn players with the total subscriber count in that subreddit (Which is now closer to 400 readers.)
None the less, that’s a shockingly close margin.
